Weekend Fare & A Giveaway

Last night I made this scrumptious pizza – pizza dough, drizzled with olive oil, topped w/sliced fresh tomatoes (from our garden), scattered w/fresh chopped basil, seasoned w/salt & pepper, topped w/Italian blend shredded cheese, and finished w/leftover chopped grilled chicken. Yum. It was fresh and delicious. So there you have an idea for a sauceless pizza…had I grilled it, I have not doubt it would have been in my top favorite pizzas of all time. Anyway…

Homemade pork burgers are a delicous alternative to the classic hamburger. I created these one night with some ground pork from the farmer’s market. We all enjoyed the sweetness added through the red pepper and the twist on a grilled burgers.

PORK BURGER

1/4 red pepper, finely diced

2 tsp. smoked paprika
Salt & pepper to taste
1 egg
lettuce, tomato, mayo, ketchup, mustard (opt.)

Combine all ingredients. Grease & pre-heat grill or grill pan. Divide meat mixture into 6 patties. Grill until thoroughly cooked. Serve on a bun or lettuce with desired toppings. Enjoy.

  1. I am always looking for new ways to cook vegetables as side dishes. Incorporating them into a main dish works great for a lot of meals, but sometimes when I roast a chicken or make pork chops, I’m looking for a quick vegetable side that’s more interesting than boiled veg with butter and salt!

Oh, and you’re in my Google Reader. 🙂

  2. I’d love a bunch of recipes that maybe go with a theme…. like if I were to host a mexican or asian themed dinner party! This book is too cute.

  3. I just moved into a new apartment so this book would be great for hosting guests!! Right now I’m stuck with potato skins and taco cups, but would love to branch out to other fun foods!

  4. Porkburgers are one of my favorite foods! Just went to my parents and had them with sweet potato fries, salad and a fresh raspberry pie. YUMM!

  6. I’d love more tips on meal planning and easy sides to go with main meals.

I subscribe through Google reader and am part of the facebook group.

  7. The book sounds really great. If I might share something I have this bad habit of forgetting the steps or ingredients, if it weren’t for my mom I wouldn’t have eaten.

  8. I would love to grow my own vegetables and spices, but the thought of gardening intimidates me. I’d love to learn more about that and about preserving the harvest (freezing and canning).

Thanks so much for keeping this blog. I enjoy reading it. I subscribe to your blog via bloglines , and I’ll become a fan on facebook if I can figure out how. (Can you “suggest” your page for me?)

  9. Another idea for sauceless pizza is to put pesto on crust, then put on olives, feta cheese, fresh basil. You can also add some cut up tomatoes if you want.

  10. I would love to see a section on good/bad kitchen “gadgets”. Things that make the cooking process simpler and/or harder.

  11. I just want to say thanks – your blog inspires me! I am SO afraid of the kitchen – it’s pretty pathetic. But the simple way you present them, your honest & personal opinions… I read and actually WANT to cook! YAY! Thanks ladies 🙂

  12. Ok…here’s a juicy burger tip. Use the leanest meat you would like and add low fat sour cream. Healthier, and less greasy and more yummy 🙂
I’m subscribed, tweeting, facebooking and blogging you. A couple people have seen you on my fb feed and asked “what show are they from???” 🙂

  13. The pork burgers sound wonderful. I just bought some pork i might just have to try them. The books does look like a lot of fun. I do alot of parties, so this would be nice to have.

  14. Anything to do with cooking with beef & pork – count me in – i have finally gotten better at grilling the meats and learned that timing is everything.

Bison is very good to grill with and would love more receipes using it.

  15. Pork burger sounds yummy, I’ve only used pork in sloppy joes…. I also heard bison’s a great burger base, that’s my next ingredient du jour for burgers!
